(9 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:5:48 pm.

It's taking me a while to upload all the photos, but when I do, I'll post a link.  But for now, here's the pic of me with lovely Xabi.

The way it all panned out is this: I just spent the morning and afternoon drinking and enjoying the brilliant 4-1 win over the Mancs at The Sandon.  I had to check my email so we went to Lewis's.  When it closed at 5p, we walked back to the hotel to rest.  We were walking in the Docks towards the hotel when I saw Xabi talking on the phone while Nagore was pushing Jon.  Long story short, I followed them to Liverpool One, armed with a camera, and when they stopped walking, I approached them.  I politely excused myself for bothering them, then proceeded to gush about how big of a fan I was of his from the US, and how I was just in Donostia a few days ago and loved his hometown (he was pleasantly surprised!).  I also mentioned that I was sad he didn't play (which he then replied "but it was a good result!")  I then asked for a photo, which he happily posed for, with Nagore taking the picture.  I was on such a high, as I said my thank yous and goodbyes, I nearly walked into a pole!

Please excuse how I looked; it was a very long, extremely windy, and semi-drunken day.  Liverpool just killed Manchester!  And I had just met one of the best midfielders in the world!

(8 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:10:51 pm.
Holy moly, it's been over a month since I last posted.  It's been day one back home from my fabulous trip to Basque Country and Liverpool.  I had great food, great wine, saw beautiful sights, and met lots of great people, including...Xabi Alonso!  I saw him three times in three days; on the third day, I had to stop and say "hi".  Very nice man; shook my hand, had a short conversation, and happily posed for a photo, which lovely Nagore took for us.  I'll post pics soon.

:)

(2 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:9:56 pm.
Three weeks from today, I will be laying in my hotel room...in Bilbao, Spain!

I met with Nora today at work, and she gave me some fab advice for Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastian.  I am psyched to catch the Liverpool/Real Madrid match in Donostia; I will be wearing my Alonso shirt proudly.

Of course, four weeks from today, I will be in my hotel room at Albert Dock, Liverpool.  THAT is what I am most excited about :) :)

Alas...still Stateside.  Still at work.  Still have shite to do.  ::sigh::

(8 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:9:38 pm.
My driveway is officially a skating rink.  Pure ice...I hate it.  When is spring going to arrive?!

Speaking of warmer things, Scott and I have slowly figured out our March trip--we're going to Spain! (with a little excursion to England... :D).  We'll be spending our Spanish time in Basque country, San Sebastian primarily, with side trips to Bilbao, Biarritz (across the French border) and other gorgeous places.  If I can finagle our flights and have our gateway be London, we'll spend the last part of our trip in Liverpool.  Liverpool are playing Man U that weekend in March, and though I won't be able to get tickets, I'm stoked to be in a Liverpudlian pub for that match!  And we'll be in San Sebastian when they play Real Madrid!  This trip is certainly becoming a nice Xabi-trip.  :)

But alas...one more month.  And there's a lot of work to do.

(Meet me at the far post)

Time:1:20 pm.
I am stranded at home!  About a foot of snow dumped on us on Friday, and I reckon another foot will come down today.  And I need to finish Christmas shopping!  I have a brand new camera...I'll try taking pictures.

Speaking of shopping, I need a new computer.  Looking at the iMacBook Pro 17", but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the $2000+ price tag.  Stupid current computer with Trojan virus!!

I haven't watched football in a while, so I'm happy I got to watch the last 15 minutes of the Arsenal/Liverpool match (and it's always nice to see Xabi's stubbly face on the big screen :D)  I can't believe Liverpool had so many chances and still only walked away with one point (what a cracker of a goal, Keano).  But then I can't believe Arsenal was only playing with 10 men!

Four days till Christmas!

(2 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:12:19 am.

OBAMA WON!!!  Gah!  I am so drunk right now for two fantastic reasons (well, bummed that I'm supposed to be in Liverpool right now, but worked preveted that, but...): I finally finished my project at work and can finally enjoy my vacation, AND OBAMA is now president of the US!  The eight flipping years of Bush badness is FINALLY coming to an end!  We can only go up from here.

Cheers to all.  It's a great and momentous night.

(8 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:12:41 am.
I can't believe it's already Sunday (well, Monday now, since it's already passed midnight!)  However, since I worked on Saturday, Monday is actually my Sunday, so I'm chuffed that I get to sleep in!

We moved to our new building at work on Friday, and I must say, I now officially work for Corporate America because my new office has NO TELEVISION!  What's the point of working at a television network if I can't have a damn TV on my desk!  I should be able to watch the Product!!  ::sigh::  That means my days of watching our live feeds of football matches are over (I especially loved the camera in the locker rooms! :D)  And no more tennis!  Ugh...I'm going to be miserable when that starts back up again.  I really hate Disney sometimes...

One more week and then I go on vacation!  However, I have a lot to accomplish next week,  And I'm not going to Liverpool, once and for all :(  I was successful in getting match tickets to the Liverpool/Atletico Madrid match and WBA match, but the person I was going to go with was not successful, so he's not going.  and honestly, I'm not going to travel thousands of miles and spend over $2000 on a vacation all by myself.  So...no trip now!  However, I'm stuck with these tickets now...I'm sure I'll can find a suitable owner!  And I already spent some of the trip money I had put aside to buy a designer bag and matching wallet at Nordstrom.  Oops.  :)

(Meet me at the far post)

Time:11:33 pm.
I just came back from watching the debate at the Manor.  I freakin' love Obama.  Although I must stay, Brie sent me a questionnaire to see which candidate I agreed more on, and for the economy questions, I totally sided with McCain.  Very shocked by that.  But it's true, despite being a Liberal, there are a few topics that I agree with the Republicans on.  I blame my close friendship with Mike on that.  :)

I am excited that I'll be in England on Election Day.  Random Liverpudlians came up to Scott and me and talk politics back in February, so I wonder what it'll be like on Nov 4th.  It's kinda cool to know that other countries care what happes here.  Because we're so damn big.  I applied for my Absentee ballot--can't wait to vote!

By the way, I booked my hotel in Liverpool!  I'm staying right next to the Albert Dock, so I'll be super close to Xabi, HA!  Don't ask me how much I'm paying though, ugh...I totally deserve it, especially after a work week like last week!  I won't book my flight until I get confirmation that I have tickets to both UCL match against Atletico and the PL match against West Brom.  WOO!

(2 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:12:17 am.
I am absolutely exhauted.  It's safe to say that I have worked over 48 hours, taking only a 7 hour break called a nocturnal nap before I went back at it at work.  But alas, I made my deadline at 10p this evening.  Scott wanted to stay home and rest (he's hiking part of the Appalachian Trail tomorow) so I went out and got a celebratory meal and drink with Mike.  It's good to be done!  But, on Monday, I go back to the grind and do everything over again.

So, since the last time I wrote, my trip to Livepool got canceled, but I'm back on it again!  Long story short, I may just go next month, but I'll be going by myself.  A lovely gentleman may accompany me to the two football matches, but he said he had some family and old friends in England he wanted to see during the down time.  Translation: I'll have three days in Livepool all to myself.  Daunting!  But everyone says I'll have a lovely time.  Haven't book anything yet; I'm not committing myself 100% until I get confirmation from LFC that I have both match tickets.  Oh, how I do hope everything works out!  Because up until now, nothing has worked for me!

Speaking of luck, an old high school friend of mine is now livng 70 miles from London, but she's coming back to my town the same bloody week I'll be in Liverpool!  Damnit!

Off to bed. :)

(2 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:9:51 pm.
Too much tequila...and it's only Monday.

Went to Chili's to watch the US Open final.  Mike and I got there late (we always get out of work late) and we were sad to see that it wasn't a 5-set thriller.  I didn't think Roger was going to take it in 3 sets, but...eh.  The Anglophile in me was rooting for Andy Muwway (Jonathan Ross' words, not mine), but I'm somewhat happy that Roger finally won a final this year.  Yesterday, Scott and the family went to Manhattan to do some errands.  Scott and I ended up wandering over to Rockefellar Center and they had TVs set up all over the place for the US Open.  We ended up parking it at this lovely makeshift bar watching the Murray/Nadal match.  The weather was perfect for strolling up and down Manhattan.

Speaking of Anglophile, I need to send my check in to pay for my Liverpool trip.  I hope I won't be the only girl on the trip.  Then again, I hope I'm not the only "single" traveler because when we have our "down" time, it'll kinda suck if I'm stuck hanging out with myself!  But, Daragh said he'll try to get us into Melwood for a training session and meet some players, past and/or present...that'll be fun :)  I need a camera!

Still addicted to Mob Wars (I have a calendar reminder in my Outlook at work to remind me to deposit my money into the bank every morning!); I've graduated from smuggling liquor to robbing banks.  Brie and I actually spoke on the phone for 10 minutes today talking strategy.  We can act like total 12 year-old boys sometime!

Cheers!

(1 goal scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:7:36 pm.
I am absolutely addicted to Mob Wars on Facebook.  I hardly ever used facebook prior to discovering this ingenious application.  But now I'm constantly on it, doing drug deals, robbing jewelry stores, and fighting people and stealing their money!  Fantastic!

I celebrated my 25th birthday last week, although last week was a week from hell at work (my boss was on vacation, and I was all by myself doing everything!).  The company picnic was on the day of my birthday, so it was a nice way to celebrate it with some close mates.  On Saturday, we went to my fave pub, Vaughan's, and had a few pints with Scott, Mike, Brie, Steve, Steph and Sal.  Lovely Sal showed us his cloth towel-folding skills by making a penis.  The people at the table next to us thought it was a bloody riot.

I'm going back to Liverpool in November!  I'll be watching the UCL match against Atletico Madrid and then the West Brom match that following Sunday.  I'll be going with the NY LFC supporters' group, but I don't know anyone in it so I'll essentially be going alone!  So I do hope the people are cool...but aren't all Liverpool fans cool, anyway? :)

Speaking of Liverpool FC, I found myself in a video on Youtube!  Last February, I went to see Sunderland/Liverpool and after the match, there was a protest in The Kop.  Someone recorded video from it and you can see Eric and me standing in the aisle watching the action.  WOO!

(Meet me at the far post)

Time:11:16 am.

Holy cow!   A lot has happened since the last time I wrote!  Unfortunately, this summer time has been no holiday for me, especially with everything going on with work.  However, despite working 3543546524 hours a week, I have managed to:

  • enjoy the Euro finals at Nevada Smith's in NYC with many German and Spanish fans.  Leave it to Nando to finish the job! :)  The atmosphere was quite fun; there were more German fans in the bar, but the Spanish fans were much more exciting and vocal!  I did not get to celebrate the Liverpool Spaniards' win very much because the person I was with is a German National, and I spent the rest of the day trying to cheer her up.
  • watch The Dark Knight at the midnight showing.  Fabulous movie!  Brie (my pseudo-roommate) has been exposing me to the greatness that is Christian Bale so we made it a date to see the epic film when it first came out.  We were champs!  Got home by 330a, and back at work less than six hours later!
  • finish the LFC stats exam, got a high enough score to warrant an interview, which I did last Friday.  My fate is now in their hands!  I'm not too confident that I'll get the job, just because I researched just how much it would cost them to hire a foreigner...and it isn't cheap!  I am still researching living expenses in Liverpool, but for what LFC TV would pay me...OMG, I'd be taking a massive pay cut, only to live out my dream to work for a big football club.  We'll see!

Come to think of it...I haven't done too much...bloody work.  Today, I do hope to make it down to Newport...we rented a grass tennis court to play at the International Tennis Hall of Fame (the only place on this side of the US that has grass courts) but since it may rain, that idea may be a bust.  Oh well, I'm sure Scott, Steve, Eric and I will find something to do.

Speaking of Scott and Eric, I finally got Eric's Liverpool pics from him (I forgot my camera that day, so I completely dependent on Eric)!  Might as well share some!

(3 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:10:32 pm.
I'm a bit distressed right now...was just on Eurosport's shop to see if I can get the new Liverpool shirt with Xabi's name on it...they don't sell it!!!  Do they know something that I don't know (yet)?!?!  But it doesn't make sense...I can get Kewell or Riise on the back of the shirt, but not Alonso?!  WTF!!!

Someone want to pick up the new jersey with Xabi's name on it for me before he leaves?!  ::tears::

Had proper fish and chips today with Keith, brought me to this shop where the heck out of nowhere.  Then I went to play tennis while it showered.  Very fun :)

(4 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:7:59 am.

It's 8a and I've already been up for 2 1/2 hours!  Mike and I have agreed to start working out everyday, so when he said that we were going to go for a run this morning, I thought he said that he'd call at 630a.  Yep...definitely called me at 530a!  It was nice though...we did 4 miles on a trail, peaceful save all the people taking walks/runs at this ungodly hour.

Last night we went to the tennis court, only to have it start raining.  We played on at first and it was quite liberating!  Made sliding on the hard court much easier :D  But the balls were getting heavier and then it started pouring, so that was the end of that!

Tuesday (I'm going backwards, haha) was the Multicultural fair at work.  It was Euro 2008 themed!  When I got to work, someone left me an awesome Van Der Sar poster and Klose poster on my desk!  I won a little min Euro football and took a few more posters.  Good food!  The England booth had fantastic chips, but no vinegar!

On Sunday, fella and I went to NYC to watch the Euro games with Cassie.  After speaking with her for 2 years, it was the first time we actually met...we didn't stop talking once during the day!  Nevada Smith's is a fantastic football bar, lots of great beer and the meat pies were delicious.  We'll be going back there for the final (regardless of who plays in it) and I definitely can't wait!  It seems so long away!

Lastly...I got a call back from LFC TV on the researcher position I applied for!  Was definitely surprised when they called!  The man had somewhat of a thick Scouse accent, but I was able to make out 95% of what he was saying.  I have a phone interview next Friday.  The man said "We typically don't interview people from overseas, but your CV was very appealing."  AH!!!  I need to brush up on my Liverpool history.

My sister graduates high school today.  Gosh I feel so old!!!

(3 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:5:10 pm.
Have you ever heard of the work-out called "Hip Hop Abs"?  It's this exercise program that consists of hip hop dancing that works out your abdominal muscles.  A WHOLE lot of fun, but you look absolutely ridiculous.  I did it yesterday with my sister, and today, everything hurts but my abs...??

I spent a good 3 hours on the tennis court playing with Steve and Mike.  Never played with Steve before, but I'm dead proud that I kept up with him...both guys are better and stronger than me.  Since the lights are now on for the summer, I think I'll hit that up tonight.

I just applied for the Researcher job at LFC TV.  Totally NOT expecting anything, but I read the description a few times and saw that I already do/am familiar with 2/3 of the requirements, so why not!  I sent them my resume and a cover letter.  They'll probably laugh when they get to my salary bit (I hate that question, by the way) because our dollar is so much weaker to the pound.  Hopefully the fact that I work for a big sports network will make them consider.  But then they'll see my address and be like "we're not hiring a Yank!"  and that'll be it for me.  Oh shite.

Mmmm...sushi time.

(Meet me at the far post)

Time:11:16 pm.
Today was such a long day.  I found out yesterday that I got promoted!  It softens the blow of not getting that other job.  And since my promotion came with a 15% raise, it means that I'm now making thousands of dollars more than what I would have been making if I got the job in International.  But I know that this job promotion involves me possibly doing something that I really don't want to do.  I'll elaborate if my nightmare comes true.

I met up with a group of mates last night at a Mexican restaurant and learned that Thursdays is Ladies' Night with cheap margaritas!  And they have such a great margarita selection!  I think I just found a new place to go to on Thursdays...

There's a fantastic chance I'll be going back to Liverpool this fall--which works out well because I still have a week of vacation that I need to use up!  The New York LFC club is hoping to plan a trip to Anfield in the fall, going overseas to watch a PL match and a UCL match, all in one trip!  The journey will probably set me back roughly $1600-$2000, but seriously...how many damn times do I get to go to Anfield?  The bad thing is that I may have to make the trip alone (well, alone in a sense that I won't know anyone else who is going!).  Anyone want to go with me to Liverpool for a week in the fall???  (I think it's a week...I mean, how many days could there possibly be between a league match and a European match?)  Oh shite, I should just grow a pair and journey off by myself--I'll most likely meet some fantastic people anyway who share my passion for football and traveling.  But still...that's a long journey by yourself.  And if Xabi leaves the club in the summer...hmm...maybe I won't be as willing to spend all that money...anyway, just a thought right now.

Off to bed...I'm hitting the tennis courts at 730a tomorrow!

(4 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:4:45 pm.

I just got back from a lovely lunch with Eric!  I received a random phone call this morning from a number I did not recognize, and when I picked up, it was Eric, the guy who went with me to the Liverpool/Sunderland match in February and who shared lots of interesting experiences in Liverpool, including drunk underaged girls around Anfield, and our crazy Disney-hating cab driver who brought us to Caesar's Palace for burgers.  Eric is back in the States now (was studying in London) so it was fun to catch up.  Crazy to think that last time I saw Eric, we were having dinner near the British Museum, and now we're having lunch in lame old Southington.

Still don't want to talk about the Champions League final (I haven't turned on my TV at work for days).  Memorial weekend was nice.  My fella, my sister, her fella, and my best friend went to a friend's house for a crawfish boil on Saturday.  Never had I ever eaten so much seafood in my life.  Brought me back to the good ol' days of college!  Mike and I also played a tennis match on Sunday.  Definitely lost that 6-1, 6-2.  I suck.  Note to self: must work on service game.

I've been driving mummy's car everywhere since she's in California right now (she has a beautiful 2008 Lexus ES 350).  It's about to rain buckets with a possibility of a hail storm.  I should probably go park that in the garage before hail starts dropping and it leaves a dent or cracks the sun roof!

Has Euros started yet?!?!  I'll be really bummed if Xabi goes to Juve.  Because if that happens, I'll have to start finding ways to get Juve match tickets...UGH.

Gah, it's pouring...gotta go!

(5 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:6:33 pm.
So I found out on Friday that I didn't get the International job.  Quite bummed about it, really, but it's not the end of the world, so everyone says.  The manager really like me...it's just that the other person had a lot more experience.  I guess that's fair, considering I've only been in the company a little over a year and I'm not even 25.  She did say that if another thing opens up, she'll let me know.  And if I decide to go for another position in International, to let her know and she'd put in a good word for me.  Ugh...back to the drawing board I guess; I'm still determined as f*ck to work for International.  I'm giving myself ten years to shape my career where I can and will move overseas.

Before I got the shite news about the job on Friday, I almost booked a flight to Moscow.  Someone sent a note saying they had one extra ticket to the Champions League final.  I missed the mark by 3 minutes, but it's fair--the person who is getting it is actually from Moscow and whose house everyone will be staying in.  Could you imagine!  What a crazy spur-of-the-moment purchase that would have been!  $2000 out the door like that!  But it would have been amazing.  I guess I'll just have to settle with watching the match with Keith and Steve this Wednesday.

Had a fantastic night out with the lads yesterday.  Instead of going to the Half Door, we went to Vaughan's Public House.  Mike was successful in sneaking out a beautiful Carlsberg glass for me.  One down, three to go!! :)  I really like Vaughan's...the crowd is more mature, and it's comparable to the pubs in Liverpool.

Speaking of Liverpool, I just read a fantastic article online about Periko and Xabi Alonso...it said the article is in the Champions League Magazine.  I hope they don't mean just the online magazine...but I think I'll drive to Borders right now to see if it's in the Champions Magazine and hang out with the BF.  Until then...!

(Meet me at the far post)

Time:9:40 pm.

What a day it's been!  I quickly realized today (like I do on all big-match days) that I am truly living in the wrong country.  My beloved Adrian came to see me today, asking me if I was getting psyched for the game (nervous was more like it) and he shared how he was quite excited to do the commentary.  Surprised to hear he wasn't in London (Derek and Tommy went to Manchester, so why not Adrian to London) but he said the Chelsea FC gave them some excuse like they "couldn't accommodate the studio staff".  What?

I've never gone through so many different emotions in one game.  One moment happy, the next moment in tears.  But in the end, Chelsea made it through and it's another freakin Chelsea/Man U matchup.  I'm taking May 21st off to spend it with Keith at a pub for the final(with either Chelsea or Liverpool in the final, I figured it was a safe bet I'd like to take the day off!).  Loved the fact that Lamps kissed his black band after his PK.  RIP Mummy Lampard.  Cracking game though...high tempo, high quality...it's what the sport is all about.  But unfortunately, someone had to lose.

I met with International Programming today and the talk went well!  I'll be meeting with the Sr Director tomorrow for a position they have opened up.  With all the craziness happening at work, I'd be more than happy for a change in jobs.
Especially if it'll allow me to do more work with football and tennis.  I just have to start learning Spanish.......

(10 goals scored | Meet me at the far post)

Time:10:47 pm.
Sorry I haven't been posting online!  Lots of things happening....busy at work (baseball season...blah...), heartbreak and frustration with football, contemplating going back to school, either to get a business degree or law degree (and perhaps going to school out of the country, gasp!), and just a whole bunch of other stuff!

Will update soon with photos from my England trip, which took place 2 months ago.  Booo....
